It probably all started back in the 90s, when BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES aired on Saturday mornings. It delivered a first taste of what stories could do, how ambience and design could be an essential contribution to the discourse. But first and foremost, it conveyed a universal truth: entertainment doesn’t have to be intellectually plain.
The book I enjoyed writing the most is HOTEL ELYSÉE because it epitomizes what I’ve learned from Baldwin’s GIOVANNI’s ROOM and Hemingway’s FIESTA. It’s literary fiction as much as it’s romance and tragedy. A very appealing cross-section of human existence.
Lukas Eberhard on his personal favorite.
Majoring in American Literature at Munich University, Lukas Eberhard received theoretical training in literature studies, focussing on the American Modernists: Ernest Hemingway, Richard Yates, James Baldwin and the likes. Despite his education, he never limited himself to writing literary fiction. His works comprise many genres, from dieselpunk over literary fiction to sports fiction and even a how-to manual on home brewing beer.
Despite shifting from creative work to Technical Writing professionally, Lukas is still passionate about literature, film and his personal creative output. Writing first drafts on a mechanical typewriter, a 70s Olivetti Studio 46, literature is still his first love. Yet it is the blend of different qualities and experieces that has made him a better writer, professional technical writer and editor and webdesign and marketing manager.
