Hollis Grant is a young, not formally educated scriptwriter, who has to fix the script for a monster film just three weeks after being hired. Finding himself in a strange, new world he always wanted to be a part of, he is struggling with various restrictions that hamper his efforts and he wonders whether this is the shiny beacon and dreamscape that he had been dreaming about before becoming a part of it himself. An aspiring artist is trying to find a way to make a name for himself with his paintings, but has to learn that there is no place for him back home, so he travels abroad to China, soon making money, but not by selling his own and genuine art. Burt, an aimless drifter, does not know what he wants from life, until he has an epiphany staring at Vancouver Island in the fog.
The short stories collected in “The Kindled Footpath” embody snippets from the lives of very different characters with diverse hopes and fears, attempting to chase their dreams against all odds.
