Aaron Green, descendant of a wealthy family from Massachusetts, is determined to take an expedition to the Middle East and research a myth concerning the famous Battle of Kadesh, when Pharaoh Ramses II fought the Hittites. To provide security, he tries to hire Ace Westfield, the legendary bounty hunter known as Red Rider. Westfield saves his life from an attack by bandits out in the West but declines his participation.
Several artifacts are retrieved during the expedition at Kadesh. But the Pharaoh’s sword, a khopesh, is indisputably the most valuable. Aaron plans an exhibition touring the States to be able to pay back his financiers. But strange things start happening around the sword. Dangerous things. Aaron decides there’s only one man that can solve this mystery. So he heads back West in search of the Red Rider, unaware of the misery that lies ahead.
